Health Education

Health Educators provide education and develop community systems that promote healthy lifestyles and prevent disease. These strategies include activities directed at three levels: the community, the organization and the individual.

Health Educators strive to enable people to make voluntary, informed choices regarding their health. Utilizing epidemiology, assessment and evaluation techniques and behavioral change theory, health educators implement strategies to facilitate improvement in the health status of individuals and communities. These strategies involve education and technical support for policy or environmental changes to assist communities in moving toward needed change.

The Health Education staff is committed to providing the best services in a professional, compassionate and efficient manner while serving multi-cultural communities. Health Education is a dynamic process that serves as the cornerstone to the disease prevention and health promotion efforts in Region 1 of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
