Disease Intervention
One of the most important tasks of public health is the control and elimination of communicable disease. Included here are some of the programs Region 1 Public Health uses to help prevent epidemics and the spread of disease.
Epidemiology is the study of diseases and how they affect people. We work to prevent and control the spread of certain diseases. In our local community we work with:
- Doctors and nurses
- Hospitals and laboratories
- Schools, public and private
- Day care centers
- Veterinarians
We are responsible for:
- Keeping track of infectious diseases occurring in our region
- Follow-up of certain reportable diseases
- Investigation of disease outbreaks
- A 24-hour response team
