National Health Education Week
National Health Education Week initiative originated in 1994 when The National Center for Health Education (NCHE) proposed to the Department of Health and Human Services that the organization be designated the primary sponsor of a campaign that focuses on school and community health education. The third week of October has since been officially noted as National Health Education Week on the Federal Calendar and others that document national health observance days, weeks, or months. For more information about NCHE, contact www.nche.org.
In conjunction with National Health Education Week and by proclamation from former Governor Jim Hodges, South Carolina celebrated October 21-27, 2002 as Health Education Week. This was a partnership activity with the SCDHEC Office of Public Health Education and the South Carolina Association for the Advancement of Health Education (SCAAHE).
