Shots (Immunizations)
- Shots (immunizations) are a very important part of keeping your child healthy. Shots are needed to protect your child from serious illnesses and disabilities from birth through the first years of life. Teenagers also need booster shots for continued protection against these diseases.
- Shots are required for day care and school. All children can get their shots from the health department or their health care provider. Call your health department for the time when shots are given.
- A pink immunization card will be given to you to keep a record of your child's shots. Be sure to bring this card with you each time you bring your child to the health department or to their health care provider. You will need this card when you enroll your child in day care or Head Start. When your child starts school, the health department will give you an immunization certificate. This certificate shows that your child has received his shots. If you have questions about immunizations, call your local health department or talk to your baby's doctor.
