Uranium Information Concerning Wells in Greenville County

The Department began an investigation of private wells in southern Greenville County for the presence of uranium in late January, 2001 after learning that high levels of uranium were found in three private wells at residences on Jenkins Bridge Road near Simpsonville, South Carolina. Within a week of learning about these wells, the Department confirmed the presence of high levels of uranium, and samples analyzed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (US EPA) Radiation and Indoor Environments National Laboratory in Las Vegas, Nevada, confirmed that the uranium was naturally occurring.
