What can I do with collected recyclables?
Finding a market for the recyclables you collect at work may be the toughest part of starting or expanding a recycling program.
First, check with your local government to see if it’s able to help your orgranization. Click here to find local government contacts. And second, below are some links to different market resources.
- The S.C. Recycling Markets Directory is a searchable on-line database of S.C. companies that may want your recovered materials. The directory can be searched by commodity.
- The Index of Waste Minimization Resources contains a listing of recyclers (both in and out-of-state) that are sorted by recovered material they accept.
- The South Carolina Materials Exchange (SCME) is a free service that seeks to reduce waste by facilitating the exchange of reusable materials by businesses, non-profit institutions and government. You can submit a listing to the SCME or you can browse the listings to see if there is any material that may be of use to you.
