Environmental Surveillance and Oversight Program (ESOP)
Ambient Groundwater Monitoring Adjacent to SRS
Groundwater quality around SRS is evaluated to develop background water quality
information to support SCDHEC and SRS groundwater monitoring programs. ESOP
defined a network of 75 wells, within 10-miles of the SRS boundary, consisting
of public supply wells, private wells, irrigation wells and monitoring wells.
Samples are collected on a five-year cycle, and analyzed for total and dissolved
water quality parameters, some priority pollutants and selected radiological
constituents. Water quality data from this project enhances current water
quality data and provides assurance to the public that off-site groundwater
quality is not impacted by SRS.
