CHARLESTON – The Shoreline Change Advisory Committee will meet on August 20, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for the committee to receive presentations that focus on state and local beachfront management planning efforts from representatives of DHEC’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management and the Town of Hilton Head Island. The committee will then conduct a facilitated discussion about issues related to shoreline management.

There will be a 30-minute public comment period at 3:30 p.m. for citizens to express their ideas or concerns. Written comments also will be accepted throughout the committee process and can be submitted to DHEC’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management by e-mailing Braxton Davis at: davisbc@dhec.sc.gov.

Organized by DHEC, the Shoreline Change Advisory Committee is composed of a broad cross-section of stakeholders including scientists, coastal managers, municipal officials, developers, conservationists and legal professionals. The committee’s purpose is to organize existing shoreline research, identify research priority needs and consider policy-related issues concerning management of South Carolina’s estuarine and beachfront shorelines.
