Lancaster High students selected for All-Health Team

COLUMBIA – Lancaster High School has been selected as an All-Health Team winner for its “Save Our Skin” skin cancer awareness project, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

“Our students promote skin cancer awareness and prevention in several ways,” said Susan Burgess, a health science technology instructor at Lancaster High. “Lunch fairs, newsletters, bulletin boards and participation in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life walk have all been effective ways of communicating valuable information about skin cancer.”

For being named to the All-Health Team, Lancaster High’s “Save Our Skin” project will receive a $500 grant, t-shirts and other All-Health Team items, recognition on the All-Health Team Web site and a television spot on WIS-TV in Columbia.

According to Burgess, students will use the $500 grant to purchase sunglasses, sunscreen and hats to use as fundraising and educational items.

DHEC and WIS-TV sponsor the All-Health Team. Each month, the partnership recognizes an individual or youth group promoting health in their community.
