Shoreline Change Advisory Committee Meeting

CHARLESTON – The Shoreline Change Advisory Committee will meet Nov. 30, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. at the S.C. Department of Natural Resources auditorium at Fort Johnson, Charleston, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

Anyone wishing to speak during the morning comment period will be allowed up to five minutes on topics regarding physical shoreline changes and related social, economic or environmental impacts. The public comment period may be shortened based on attendance.

Anyone wishing to comment should pre-register by contacting Braxton Davis at DHEC’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management at 843-953-0246 or davisbc@dhec.sc.gov. Written comments will also be accepted throughout the committee process.

The committee will reconvene in the afternoon for presentations on topics including shoreline management in other states as well as a historical perspective on shoreline planning and regulation development in South Carolina.

Organized by DHEC, the Shoreline Change Advisory Committee is comprised of a broad cross-section of stakeholders including scientists, coastal managers, municipal officials, developers, conservationists and legal professionals. The committee’s purpose is to organize existing shoreline research, identify research priority needs and consider policy-related issues concerning the future management of South Carolina’s estuarine and beachfront shorelines.
