Flu vaccination clinic set for Charleston area

N. CHARLESTON – A special flu vaccination clinic will be held at the North Charleston Convention Center, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental announced today.

On Friday, Oct. 12, DHEC’s Region 7 Public Health will provide flu shots at the Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The shots will be available as drive-through or walk-in service,” said John Simkovich, DHEC’s Region 7 health director. “No appointments are needed. The cost for DHEC-sponsored flu shots is $25. In addition to flu shots, the $25 will also cover pneumonia and tetanus shots if medically indicated.”

According to Simkovich, 10 nurses will be giving shots.

“Our goal is to have minimal wait, if any, for people who come for a shot,” Simkovich said. “Medicaid, Medicare, cash or check will be accepted and there will be no charge for parking at this event.

“We advise anyone who wants to reduce their risk from flu and its complications to get a flu shot” said Simkovich. “October 12th will provide a good opportunity for many people to get their flu shot.”

People should wear short sleeves with a jacket or sweater that can be removed easily in case of cold weather. If the weather is inclement, the clinic will be held indoors only.
