Some Georgetown County shellfish beds closed
COLUMBIA – The Conditionally Approved shellfish beds in the South Santee River in Georgetown County have been closed, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.
“The beds were closed today because of heavy rainfall that occurred over the weekend, and the potential for contamination,” said Mike Pearson, of DHEC’s Shellfish Sanitation section. “The beds will remain closed until water quality data indicates that bacteria levels are acceptable for shellfish harvesting.”
