DHEC Region 8 presents 2007 Physician of the Year award

COLUMBIA – Tyrone McElveen, M.D., of the Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. has been given the Region 8 Physician of the Year award for 2007, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

“Dr. McElveen is a wonderful community partner,” said Matt Petrofes, DHEC Region 8 Public Health Director. “His staff is always pleasant and helpful and he is diligent and committed to serve the needs of the community.”

Petrofes said Dr. McElveen is the only HIV provider in Ridgeland and one of the few in Jasper County. He also cares for the community’s indigent clients who suffer from tuberculosis.

“He takes the time to care for his family, his patients and community. We are proud and grateful to work with him. We are thankful for the all the service he provides,” Petrofes said.

DHEC Region 8, which serves Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties, present an award to a physician within those counties for outstanding service to residents within the community. Nominees must be physicians or clinicians who care for indigent patients in the community.
