Follow-up TB testing results negative

Follow-up skin tests on Dec. 7, 2006, for students and staff who were close contacts of a person at Georgetown High School who was treated for tuberculosis in September yielded negative results Friday, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

"All negative results indicate that none of the close contacts were infected with TB," said Shea Rabley, director of DHEC's Tuberculosis Control Division.

These tests are part of the public health response to a suspect case of TB, which includes initial skin tests for close contacts. In this case the initial tests were given and read in September. The routine follow-up tests are conducted as part of the disease investigation and are given a few months after the first tests to ensure the public's health.
