Some Beaufort County shellfish beds temporarily closed

COLUMBIA – Conditionally approved shellfish beds in Beaufort County have been closed to harvest due to excessive rainfall, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported today.

“These closures are temporary and are the result of the nearly two inches of rain Hilton Head and Port Royal received on Tuesday,” said Charles Newell, manager of DHEC’s Shellfish Sanitation Section.

The following conditionally approved shellfish beds have been temporarily closed:

For information about beds in the Georgetown County area, contact DHEC’s Region 6 EQC office in Myrtle Beach at (843) 238-4378. For information about Charleston area beds, contact DHEC’s Region 7 EQC office in North Charleston at (843) 740-1590.
