Flu vaccination clinic in Myrtle Beach

COLUMBIA – Grand Strand residents in need of a seasonal influenza shot can stop by a special clinic Saturday, Nov. 4, at the recreation center on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

“This clinic, which will operate from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., provides a one-stop flu vaccination stop for the whole family and no appointment is needed,” said Covia Stanley, M.D., DHEC Region 6 public health director. “We will have plenty of adult and pediatric vaccine available for everyone’s convenience. We recommend the vaccination for everyone over the age of six months.”

There is a $25 charge for the vaccination that can be covered by Medicare and Medicaid. Visitors are also encouraged to wear short sleeves with a jacket if the weather is cool.

“DHEC and the City of Myrtle Beach are partnering to test the region’s ability to vaccinate a great number of people in a short time,” Stanley said. “The clinic will provide data to help us determine the amount of time needed to vaccinate or treat the entire population quickly and assure that the recreation center is an adequate location for a large dispensing clinic.”

The recreation center is located at 800 Gabreski Lane on the former air force base site. Specific directions will be posted at the U.S. 17 Business and U.S. 17 Bypass entrances.
