Corrected: Special flu vaccination clinics set
N. CHARLESTON – The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Region 7 Public Health announces plans for two special flu clinics.
On Saturday, Oct. 28, flu shots will be available at the North Charleston Convention Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for parking. DHEC nurses will come to the car to give the flu shot to those who have a handicapped license plate or mirror tag. Shots for everyone else will be given inside the convention center.
“We will have 22 nurses on-site to give shots,” said John Simkovich, DHEC’s Region 7 health director. “Our goal is to have minimal, if any, wait for people who come for a shot.”
On Saturday, Nov. 4, flu shots will be available at DHEC’s Berkeley County Public Health Department’s Moncks Corner Clinic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flu shots on this date will be provided as a drive-through service for everyone. The clinic is located at 109 W. Main Street in Moncks Corner. DHEC will have 10 nurses on site providing shots.
“We advise anyone who wants to reduce their risk from flu and its complications to get a flu shot” said Pam Singletary, DHEC’s Region 7 immunization program manager. “These two days will provide an opportunity for people who don’t have a regular doctor to get a flu shot. It is also a way for those who cannot make an appointment at another location, or who cannot get a shot during the work week, to get one.”
No appointments are needed for either day. The cost for DHEC-sponsored flu shots is $25. Medicaid, Medicare, cash or check will be accepted. Pneumonia shots will not be available. People should wear short sleeves with a jacket or sweater that can be removed easily in case of cold weather. If the weather is inclement, directions to parking will be provided and the clinic will be held indoors. For more information, call 1-800-837-3037 between 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
