Swimming advisory issued for sections of Hilton Head Island beach
BEAUFORT – A swimming advisory has been issued for two sections of Hilton Head Island beach, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
“The affected area includes 200 feet on each side of the beach access at Atlantic Pointe in Sea Pines Plantation, and 200 feet on each side of the beach access at Marriot’s Grande Ocean Resort/Alder Lane,” said Russell Berry of DHEC’s Region 8 Environmental Quality Control office.
High bacteria levels have been detected in these sections of the beach. Swimming is not advised until bacteria levels return to normal. It is believed that high surf, strong northeasterly winds and higher than normal tides are the cause of the high bacteria levels.
