Swimming advisory issued for Fripp Island

BEAUFORT – A swimming advisory has been issued for a section of Fripp Island beach located 200 feet North and South of the beach access at John Fripp Villas on Silverside Road, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.

High bacteria levels have been detected on that section of the beach. Swimming is not advised until bacteria levels return to normal. It is believed that high surf, strong northeasterly winds and higher than normal tides associated with the passing of Hurricane Florence are the cause of the high bacteria levels.

For more information about beach water quality, see www.earth911.org, or call DHEC’s Region 8 Environmental Quality Control office at (843) 846-1030.
